Big turnouts in area Turkey Trot events Thanksgiving morning provided solid benefits to local charities as the holiday giving season gets underway.
Almost 3,000 people registered for the 32nd annual Crisis Services Turkey Trot 5K at UAH. Final results saw about 500 more official finishers than last year, and the overall registration puts the event as one of the biggest in the city.
In south Huntsville, the TTT Turkey Trot had about 40 more official finishers this year. The event has steadily grown and offers a less-crowded alternative, along with being closer for those in the southern part of the city. Proceeds benefit the Around the Curtain Community Children’s Theatre, a 501c3 non-profit children’s theatre in Huntsville.
Over in Decatur, the annual 3M Turkey Trot of Morgan County saw an increase of official finishers to 427 from 305 last year. Trot proceeds help the United Way of Morgan County.
Unseasonable temperatures the last few weeks likely helped increase registrations, despite Thursday morning’s nippy chills at starting time. Temps were in the sunny high 30s and low 40s with an occasional breeze. It’s also certainly easier to enjoy an event with family and friends, as well as one that raises money for a good cause.
