Winter Winds Speedsters Blow Away State Records

Fifteen state age records were set by runners ranging from 5 to 75 years old during the annual Winter Winds 2- and 4-mile road races Sunday afternoon.

The annual kickoff to the Huntsville Track Club season saw two hearty fields hit the streets behind the Sandra Moon Community Complex. Nine runners broke records in the 4-mile race and six in the 2-mile. Four set records in both races.

Forty-seven records have been set in the last four years at the races. Both distances are certified. Unlike the more popular 5K and 10K distances, 2- and 4-mile events are not held often. Winter Winds offer runners a shot at records and a change of pace. State records are available only to state residents.

Josh Whitehead of Madison won the overall titles in both races, taking the 4-mile in 21:59 and 2-mile in 10:25. Julia Donovan of Huntsville won the women’s 4-mile in 26:31. Nina Sillivant of Huntsville took the 2-mile women’s title in 12:24.
