2026 Alabama Finishers in the 130th Boston Marathon

More than 100 runners from Alabama completed the 130th Boston Marathon on Monday, the highest number in several years for the iconic race.

Max Zani, 25, of Bremen led North Alabama’s finishers, crossing the line in Copley Square in 2:20:23. Whitley Waldrop, 32, of Guntersville, was the area’s first female finisher. She crossed in 2:57:07.

Alabama was represented by runners from throughout the state, from Florence to Mobile, with 118 registered and 105 finishing. The state saw 86 finish in 2025, which was more than in 2024.

Huntsville native Ryan Ford smashed a personal best marathon finish on Monday, with a 2:05:46. He was 12th overall. Check out his split times here.

Marathon Moments

The marathon is held annually on Patriots Day, a holiday in Massachusetts celebrating the battles at Lexington and Concord. Those were the first of the American Revolution.

Some 30,000 runners, joggers, plodders and walkers packed the famed route that winds through eight neighborhoods. It starts in Hopkinton and ends in Copley Square, in downtown Boston. Temperatures were in the mid-30s at the start, a bit of a delight for the speedsters. Onlookers bundled up in parkas, gloves and toques to cheer on the field.

Runners also enjoyed (perhaps?) a strong tailwind that led to some speedy finishes among the top of the field. John Korir of Kenya won the race in a record time of 2:01:52, a pace of 4:39 per mile. Sharon Lokedi of Kenya won the women’s title in 2:18:51. Both won the race in 2025, too.
