FLORENCE, Ala. — Josh Whitehead opened 2023 in a familar position: on the victory podium, after winning the Dam Bridge Run 10K on Saturday.
Whitehead, 44, of Madison, won by almost four minutes in his opening race of the year. He claimed multiple events in 2022 including the Pill Hill10K, Ditto Landing 10K and Rocket City Marathon. Whitehead crossed the line in 32:13, with Justin Watson, 26, finishing second in 36:08.
Clarissa Hell, 27, of Huntsville, won the women’s title and was 9th overall. she finished in 43:57. Maureen Daly, 41, of Athens, was second in 47:51.
The event had more than 140 finishers. Runners cross the Tennessee River on the historic Wilson Dam, which was completed in 1926. It is part of the Tennessee Valley Authority’s chain of hydroelectric dams in the Southeast that help with flood control and creating electricity. After crossing the dam, runners make their way west and then cross the Singing River Bridge over the river before hitting the finish line.
The event is hosted by the Shoals Christian School.
