It’s been quite a few busy weekends with fun races and runners venturing off to cool events, making for a big TVO Roundup.
We’ve been on the road a bit so this roundup has a wide range of results. Be sure to check on what’s coming up in our TVO Calendar, which is updated regularly.
Antarctica Half-Marathon
Nik Meeks and Fallon Skinner, both of Chattanooga, finished the Antarctica Half-Marathon on March 21 at King George Island, Antartica.
Meeks finished 49th in 4:12:17, and Skinner was 50th in 4:24:26. Check out all the results here for the half.
Blake LaBathe of Brooklyn won the marathon in 3:38:51. Eighty-four runners completed the marathon event. It involved three 8-mile(ish) loops through Bellinghausen, the Russian base on the continent, along with bases for Chile, China and Urugray. Runners began at 7:30 a.m. and encountered snow, wind, sun and clouds with an average temperature of 27 degrees. The course is hilly and, during the races, icy conditions were a challenge.
McKay Hollow Madness
HUNTSVILLE — Calvin Vechinski and J.D. Shattuck, both of Huntsville, won the McKay Hollow Madness 25K and 12K titles on March 23 at Monte Sano State Park.
Vechinski finished in 2:19:34 to win by about nine minutes over James Ebert of Huntsville. Ebert, who won the Dizzy 50s last fall at MSSP, finished in 2:28:30. Dylan Glass of Gurley was third in 2:33:43.
Amelia Harrison of New Market won the women’s title in 3:04. She was 13th overall. Dana Overton of Owens Cross Roads was second (16th) in 3:09, and Jenny Gage of Madison was third (18th) in 3:15.
Craig Smith of Madison won the Masters title in 2:46, finishing fifth. Christy Scott of Owens Cross Roads was the Female Master winner, in 3:25 at 25th place.

Shattuck, 15, one of the top local young trail racers, won the 12K title by about a minute over Mark Ridley, 59, of Owens Cross Roads. Shattuck crossed in 1:22:38, and Ridley was next at 1:23:30. Jake Wilson of Owens Cross Roads was third in 1:29:17.
Mary Ann Koch of Huntsville won the women’s 12K crown, finishing 10th overall in 1:41. Sarah Manning of Madison was second (14th) in 1:45, and Amanda Salazar of Meridianville was third (16th) in 1:48.
Colin Fagan of Thompson Station, Tenn., won the Men’s MAsters title in 1:44. He was 11th overall. Elizabeth Whitaker of Scottsboro won the Female Masters title in 1:58 and was 30th.

Savage Gulf Marathon
COALMONT, Tenn. — Charley Haney of Chattanooga finished second in the rugged Savage Gulf Marathon on March, 30, finishing in 5:21:49.
Shannon Dye of Chattanooga was the female runner-up and finished sixth overall in 6:20:43.
Douglas Hemphill of Toney was the top north Alabama finisher, 23rd in 7:29:22. Elizabeth Collinsworth of Killen finished 31st in 8:03, and Rick Rawls of Huntsville was 33rd in 8:12:09.

Shamrock 5K
HUNTSVILLE — Aidon Barton won the Shamrock 5K on April 6 in 17:50, with Nathaniel Pierce second in 18:04. The race was held in downtown Huntsville.
Hayden Smith won the women’s title in 20:45 and was seventh overall. Avery McDonald was second (10th) in 21:51.

Market on the Square 5K
SCOTTSBORO — Tristin Cuzzort of Pisgah won the Market on the Square 5K on March 30 by more than a minute, finishing in 21:11.
Daniel Leonard of Grant was second in 22:39. Connie Westmoreland of Bridgeport claimed the women’s title and fourth overall in 23:15. Elizabeth Whitaker of Scottsboro was second (7th) in 25:29.

Tennessee Smokies 5K
KODAK, Tenn. — Joshua Mower of Knoxville claimed the Tennessee Smokies 5K in 16:49, winning by more than a minute.
Evan Miller of Newport, Tenn., was second in 17:55.
Mary Gerth of Acworth, Ga., won the women’s title in 22:49. She was seventh overall. Emma Davidhizar of Wakarusa, Ind., was second (14th) in 25:56.
The race started and ended at the Smokies stadium, with runners rounding the bases to the finish line.
