TVO Roundup: Marine Corps Marathon, Helping Hands Half and More

It was a huge weekend for the TVO Roundup, with everything from a classic marathon to several zippy half-marathons and other races taking place.

We’re getting more info about holiday runs, so be sure to check out the updated calendar to find your gobble-jingle fun event. As always, we’ll have a separate calendar listing soon for Thanksgiving and Christmas events to make it easier to find one.

On to the roundup!

Marine Corps Marathon

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A host of area runners completed the 49th Marine Corps Marathon, one of the most popular and scenic “must do” events.

The weekend’s events include the marathon, 50K and 10K. More than 16,100 finished the marathon in multiple divisions.

Among the area finishers were Kevin and Shannon Green of Toney, in 4:23:16. Ainsley’s Angels ambassador Stacy Gagne of Madison, who was with the Greens, finished in 4:23:16 with them. Danielle Dutcher of Huntsville, a member of the Team Rocket Tri Club, crossed in 5:23:42.

That’s not it by any means, with almost 20 from Huntsville and more from the TVO region. Go here to the marathon results page and then type in the name or hometown (like, Madison or Soddy Daisy).

Sky to Summit

SKY VALLEY, Ga. — Kyle Kalbus of Chattanooga finished third in the 13th annual Sky to Summit 50K on Oct. 26.

Kalbus completed the two loops in 5:39:20. Runners start at Sky Valley and climb to the top of Rabun Bald, the second-highest peak in Georgia. The summit includes tunnels of lush rhododendron, possibility of seeing bears, crossing the ridge trail used by Native Americans and explorer William Bartram, a quick climb up the firetower, and then down the east side for more hilly fun.

Kyle Kraeft of Tallahassee won the 50K in 5:12:36, and Amy Ross-Johnson smoked it for second in 5:29:36. Her time is second-best on the women’s Top 10 list. It’s the first time in four years anyone has posted a T10 women’s mark, and three on the men’s side. The course is challenging, to say the least, with 7,500 feet of gain for the 50K and 3,500 for the 25K.

Carter won the women’s title and was 10th overall in 24:21.
