Parameswarans Easily Melt Field in Tootsie Roll 5K Wins

MADISON — Anthony Parameswaran led the family sweep and ran away with the win Saturday morning in the 7th annual Tootsie Roll 5K presented by At Your Service.

Parameswaran, 28, of Huntsville, finished in 17:23, with Jake Bryan second in 18:07. Ian Howley was third in 18:46.

Alexandra Parameswaran, 29, won the women’s division and was eighth overall. She finished in 20:14. Jennifer Groves was second (18th) in 22:06 and Jennifer Childress third (26th) in 22:51.

Discovery Middle won the team competition with 15 points. Heritage Elementary was second with 22, and PREK Supers was third with 25.

The Tootsie Roll 5K race and fun run is put on by the Knights of Columbus Councils 10232 and 17519 of Madison. Proceeds benefit students with special learning needs in Madison City Schools. This is part of a nationwide campaign put on by the Knights of Columbus. The race through downtown Madison begins and ends at Madison City Stadium next to the Madison City Schools administration building.

The 5K had 326 official finishers, more than last year’s event.
