It’s been a minute since the TVO Roundup made an appearance but things have been going on, y’know. Life, stuff, other things. Whew.
It’s been a busy few weeks with a cool variety of road and trail events, big and small. We’re getting into the time of year when more events are stacked up on weekends, too. Be sure to check out the TVO Calendar to find your fun event in the woods or on the streets.
Mardi Gras 5K
Nathaniel Pierce of Huntsville sped to the win Feb. 8 in the Mardi Gras 5K in downtown Huntsville.
Pierce won in 17:18, with Jasper House of Huntsville in second at 18:56.
Anna Ragsdale, 15, of Huntsville, won the women’s title in 20:58 and was fifth overall. Kortney Kuhl, 30, of Huntsville, was second (8th) in 22:27.
The annual race is a fundraiser for the Blount Hospitality House of Huntsville. The facility is a home away from home for out-of-town family members of Huntsville area hospital patients.

Houston Marathon
HOUSTON — Three Huntsville-area runners were among a handful from Alabama who completed the Chevron Houston Marathon on Jan. 19.
Joshua Swain of Toney crossed in 3:26:06. Suzanne Swift of Owens Cross Roads finished in 4:04:10, and Charles Farrior of Huntsville finished in 4:57:50.

Long Haul 100
LAKELAND, Fla. — James Ebert of Huntsville kicked off the year with a strong finish in the Long Haul 100 on Jan. 18.
Ebert, 37, of Huntsville, finished second in 16:46:27. Rob King of Ohio won in 14:26:56.
The event had 149 finishers from about two dozen states. See all of the results here.
Moonpie Move
MADISON — James Schiavone of Huntsville won the Moonpie Move half-marathon on Jan. 26 at Palmer Park.
Schiavone won in 1:49, with Joshua Wilke of Athens second in 1:51 and James Hurley of Huntsville third in 1:52.
Lori Lynn Short of Alexandria, Ala., won the women’s title and was sixth overall in 2:11. Courtney Andrews of Owens Cross Roads was second (7th) in 2:18, and Victoria Schiavone of Huntsville third (8th) in 2:26.
Logan Wood, 9, of Hazel Green, won the 5K race in 19:18.

Rabid Raccoon 25K
CHATTANOOGA — Bryson Harper of Chattanooga won the 9th annual Rabid Raccoon 25K on Feb. 8 with a record finish under great conditions.
Harper’s winning time of 1:53:19 was fourth-best in the race’s history. Gatlin Holland of Birmingham was second in 1:54:43, good for fifth on the record list. He also notched the No. 10 time in 2022.
Abigail West of Athens, Ga., won the women’s title and was eighth overall. She finished in 2:15:42, fourth-best on the women’s Top 10 list.
