DECATUR — Jack Pazin embraced the “laissez les bons temps rouler” mindset to speed to the 9th annual Carnival Frolic 13.1 title Saturday morning.
Pazin, 24, of Columbia, Tenn., took top honors in the celebratory half-marathon with a winning time of 1:13. Pazin won by about four minutes over Nathaniel Pierce, 38, of Huntsville, who crossed in 1:17.
Alana Scarano, 31, of Huntsville, was third and took the women’s title. She posted a 1:19, and along with Pazin and Pierce were sub-1:20. Dane Ard and Stuart Lamp, both of Decatur, were fourth and fifth in 1:25:11 and 1:25:16.
Angela Lopez, 38, of Harvest, was second in the women’s division and eighth overall. She finished in 1:34:14.
The course is flat and fast, taking runners through parts of Old Decatur historic districts, along the Tennessee River and through Point Mallard Park. The course is USATF certified. Runners were treated to a party at the Carnegie Visual Arts Center with beignets, a sampling of red beans and rice, and beverages. The race was held about two weeks later than last year’s, but will return to mid-February in 2026.
