GRANT — Josh Whitehead won by almost four minutes and Erin Hurlburt battled for the women’s crown at the Dan Robinson Memorial 10K on Saturday.
Whitehead, 46, of Madison, cruised to a 32:15 finish for the title. Kolton Watts, 22, was second in 36:02 and Erick Kigen, 36, of Huntsville, was third in 37:09. Kigen was coming off a T10 finish in the St. Jude Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon the week before.
Hurlburt, 20, of Lacey’s Spring, was eighth overall to win the women’s title. She finished in 45:30.
Diane Trout, 43, was second (ninth) in 45:58, pushing Trout at the finish line. Rachel Brown 53, was third (13th) in 53:46.
The 10K field had 19 finishers. The course has a nice variety of hills and takes runners to the Kate Duncan Smith DAR School and back.
Runners in the 10K and 5K start at the Kidtopia Park in Grant. The runs are hosted by the Grant Playground and Recreation Association. They are held in memory of the late Dan Robinson, who was instrumental in the formation of the assocation and Kidtopia playground. Proceeds from the runs benefit the Kidtopia playground for maintenance and expansion.
Daniel Leija, 19, won the 5K race in 16:47 and Bryana Wilson won the women’s title in 22:47. She was ninth overall. The 5K field had 47 finishers.
