Rich Wins Greenway Grand Prix 8K in Close Finish

In a close finish, David Rich won the Greenway Grand Prix 8K Friday evening on the Big Cove Creek Greenway in Hampton Cove.

Rich, 19, finished in 29:17:97 to hold off Nehemiah Johnson, 19 and Jack Shattuck, 17. Both were less than 25 seconds behind him at the wire.

Megan Allan, 41, won the women’s division and was fourth overall. She finished in 30:01. Allan won the division in the previous two Greenway Grand Prix events.

The series consists of four Friday evening races, all held on flat and fast greenways in Huntsville. Similar to the Running Lane summer and winter Wild Thangs trail series events, the Greenway Grand Prix races increase in distance with each event.

The Aug. 1 finale is a 10K on the Aldridge Creek Greenway out of Ditto Landing. Registration is available. Ditto and Aldridge Creek are home to several popular events, including the Boston or Bust marathon.

Friday’s 8K had 52 finishers.
