Members of the Team Rocket Tri Club were honored recently for their support, volunteer work, mentorship and race performances after a stellar year on the road and in the water.
The club presented its top awards in October after the culmination of its local slate of events. Almost 1,300 athletes participated this year, including 542 in the Huntsville Sprint Tri, 184 in the Pesky Piranha Youth Triathoon and 157 in the Racin’ the Station Duathlon on Redstone Arsenal.
As a non-profit organization, the club makes donations to area charities and organizations with proceeds from events and sponsorships. This year’s donations totaled $19,700. The 2026 schedule will be announced soon.
TRTC President Ruth Marie Oliver presented the awards and the following comments about each:

BILLY AND LESLEY CARROLL — “Rookie of the Year has been given to “a” triathlete who has shown up and shown out in their first year with our club. It is not historically an individual who is new to triathlon but this year our Rookie is going to a true Rookie. This time last year they were cutting their teeth on short rides and runs. Now our Rookie is looking toward doing a 70.3 and even an Ironman. Our Rookie has shown up to TNB, helped as a volunteer, and truly embraces our organization as we have embraced our Rookie. This year is different than past years. Our ROOKIE is a couple, a POWER COUPLE… And I feel certain they are here to stay.”
