Pierce, Beversdorf Race to The F5 5K Wins Before Storms

The skies grew darker, wind whooshed, rain pelted … oh, wait, most of that was after Nathan Pierce zipped to victory Saturday morning in The F5 5K at Hays Farm.

Fortunately after the race was over, the bottom dropped as if a trap door opened with a vengenance. The 5K was part of the third annual Fleet Feet Fall Fitness Festival. A full morning with the race and fun run, biking, vendors, shoe trial opportunities from Altra, Saucony, Hoka and others, music, food trucks and more was dashed due to the storms. Boooo.

Pierce, 39, of Huntsville, finished in 17:05 for his second area win in two weeks. Dylan Glass of Gurley was just behind (17:27) and Lance Flemming of Memphis was third (17:46).

Laurel Beversdorf of Huntsville captured the women’s title with a finish of 22:13. She was 14th overall. Kortney Kuhl was second (16th, 23:28) and Rachel Strons was third (17th, 23:33). Kuhl and Strons also are from Huntsville.

The race had 145 official finishers.
