Altra’s New Vanish Carbon 2 Unites Speed and Comfort

Altra Running has released the second iteration of its award-winning Vanish Carbon road racing shoe, which has a full-length carbon fiber plate and zero drop.

“After years of working with elite athletes, we were beyond excited to launch the original Vanish Carbon back in 2022,” said Altra Running co-founder Brian Beckstead. “Two years later, we are thrilled to launch a more durable, full-plated race shoe. By increasing the percentage of Altra Ego Pro and adding a full carbon plate, the Vanish Carbon feels softer than before underfoot. This also allows for increased asymmetry and a more natural stride.”

The Vanish Carbon 2 is the next step for Altra’s premium road racing offering. The new full-length carbon fiber plate is paired with Altra’s Slim Footshape and zero drop. This delivers a 14 percent increase in asymmetry to allow natural foot strike.

Additionally, a stack height increase from 33mm to 36mm allows for a more cushioned, yet responsive ride. This stack height paired with a 32-percent increase in Altra Ego Pro midsole cushioning gives the Vanish Carbon 2 a softer feel underfoot for miles and miles of racing.

“The Vanish Carbon 2 has allowed me to train at a high level without worrying how I’m going to feel the next day,” said Frank Lara, one of the Altra Elite Athlete team members.

This race shoe epitomizes the brand’s belief that comfort should not be compromised when it comes to race shoes.

“This is a competitive racing shoe we’ve been waiting for,” said team member Cal Neff. It has “all of the foam and carbon benefits of other brands, but in a natural foot-shaped balanced platform, meaning you do not have to sacrifice comfort for speed.”

The Vanish Carbon 2 is available in one white/coral for men and women. Find it at altrarunning.com and through select retailers. MSRP $260.
