Drew Bell finished second in his age group in the 1500m championship Monday at the Huntsman World Senior Games in Utah, his first of three medals in track events.
Bell, 59, of Madison, posted a 5:31.60 for the silver in competition at the Greater Zion Stadium at Utah Tech University. The campus is located in St. George in southwest Utah. He was ninth overall in the final standings for all runners.

On Tuesday, Bell finished second in the 800m race in 2:36:45 in his age group, and eighth overall in the final standings. Wednesday in the 3000m event, he finished ninth overall and was third in the age group race in 11:55:97.
Bell is scheduled to compete in the cross country trail and 10K and 5K road races later this week.
Bell is the head coach for the cross country/track and field teams at James Clemens High School.
“I made my goal of making ALL WORLD in three events. I earned three medals. I am overwhelmed with grace and mercy to be top 3 in the World in three events,” Bell posted on Facebook. “I have two days of ice bath / epsom salt baths, stretching, compression boots, muscle gun, etc., to be ready for the cross country race and the 5K and 10K road races. I am very thankful for my Father God; Jesus Christ Lord and Savior and the Holy Spirit for leading the way. I also am very grateful for my family; friends; and team that encourages me each and every day on my journey.”
The Huntsman World Senior Games has more than 12,000 athletes from 96 countries competing in more than 40 sports. Each has different age categories, in 5-year increments from 50-100 years old for men and women.
Bell finished 13th in his age group at the World Masters Athletics 10K road race earlier this summer.
