HUNTSVILLE — David Bett of Hawai’i captured the 44th Cotton Row Run on Monday, bringing a bit of hauʻoli to the legendary Memorial Day 10K.
Bett, of Wailuku, finished second in 2023 by four seconds in one of the closest events in years. He brought the hau’oli — happiness, in Hawaiian — to the wire with a convincing win. Bett finished in 29:29, a fine 4:45 pace on a cloudy, humid morning to win by almost a minute over Dominic Korir, also of Wailuku. Korir finished in 30:33.
Zach Leachman, of Mars, Pa., was third in 30:37. Hunter Nails, of Madison, the top local seed, finished fourth in 32:34, and Allan Anderson, of Huntsville, was fifth in 32:34.
Betty Sigei of Wailuku won the women’s title in 34:53. She was 10th overall. Top local seed Emma Hardman of Huntsville was second (22nd) in 36:59, and Sarah Crouch of Madison was third (23rd) in 37:31.
The 10K had 1,434 official finishers. The races are put on by the Huntsville Track Club.
he 10K, 5K and 1-mile fun run are presented by Bill Penney Toyota, which gave away several thousand dollars in drawings this year to runners. Other sponsors include Fleet Feet, TOC, TOC Sports Medicine, Marco’s Pizza, Avadian Credit Union, Focus Physiotherapy, Vein Center of Madison Hospital, Coca-Cola and Panera Bread.

Cotton Row 5K
Brad Cheek of Nashville and Ashley Walker of Birmingham captured the Cotton Row 5K titles Saturday morning.
Cheek finished in 16:46, winning by three seconds over Kevin Dempsey of Nashville. Jayson Perry of Huntsville was third in 18:02.
Walker finished in 19:25 to win the women’s title. She was 20th overall.
Grace Gosline of Arab was second (31st) in 20:36, and Addison Garner of Opelika was third (47th) in 21:33.
The Cotton Row 5K had 1,257 official finishers. See all of the results here.
