On a calm evening perfect for a run, Rocky Dorsett and Claire Deaton dashed to wins in the Big Run 5K at John Hunt Park in Huntsville.
Early morning rain held off for the event to celebrate Global Running Day on Wednesday. The event at John Hunt Park was one of several in the area. Things kicked off early Wednesday morning with a fun 1- and 3-mile jaunt from Lululemon at Bridge Street. The weekly Pub Run crew dashed away from The Nook on 3- and 5-mile toodles.
If you’re keen on having fun with a Big Run event, the one in Madison is Saturday along with others in the area. These inclusive events have music, beverages and exhibitors. There’s still time to register for the Saturday event. They’re presented by Brooks Running and Michelob Ultra, with help from local sponsors.
Race proceeds from the Huntsville and Madison events will help Black Girls Run and Girls on the Run organizations. These are two fantastic groups that help spread the message about running, mental and physical health, friendships and more.
