Wyatt Jones of Decatur cruised to an easy win in the Brothers for Life 5K on Aug. 12 at Point Mallard Park.
Jones, 18, sped through the course in 17 minutes, a 5:28 pace. He finished 2:30 ahead of his closest pursuer.
Ian Taylor, 16, of Decatur, was second in 19:32: Dallas Eledge, 16, of Decatur, was third in 19:52.
Perla Nunez, 41, of Huntsville, won the women’s title in 24:31. She was 26th overall.
Daisy Hernandez, 19, of Elkmont, was second (28th) in 25:07, and Elizabeth Whitaker, 47, of Scottsboro, was third (31st) in 25:46. Whitaker also won the Women’s Masters title.
Johnny Wilborn won the GoRuck 5K in 23:43. Competitors run with a weighted backpack in this event. Both events and a 1-mile fun run benefitted local firefighters, police officers, EMS professionals and dispatchers.
