Martin Schneekloth of Huntsville is less than 100 miles from the finish of the Cocodona 250 in Arizona, one of the most challenging and popular endurance events.
Schneekloth, 53, had more than 147 miles under his shoes as of 11 p.m. Central time Wednesday. He had gained more than 20,000 feet in elevation by that point, and averaged about 55.5 miles per day.
As with all runners in the event, Schneekloth can be followed via the live tracking here. He recently finished the inaugural Southern States 200 in Georgia and Alabama.
The Cocodona 250 began May 6 and ends May 11 in Arizona, with runners encountering some of the best and worst of the high desert trails. It starts in Black Canyon City and ends in Flagstaff. All runners can be tracked here.
Liz Canty, 32, formerly of Huntsville and now of Colorado, was a DNF due to a lingering injury. She left the 148-mile aid station but returned to attempt new shoes and tape fittings to possibly continue. Nothing worked, however, to be able to make the final push up to Flagstaff.
Haroldas Subertas won the Cocodona 250 in a record time of 59:50:55, taking the lead in the final miles. Jeff Browning of Flagstaff was second in 60:19:57, with he and Subertas battling to the finish.
We’ll have more updates on Schneekloth as the event continues.
