Colnago Introduces New G5-X Gravel Racing Bike

Colnago introduces its new G5-X, a gravel racing bike built to stay responsive when the race is pushed to its limits, and stable, comfortable and versatile on any terrain.

The G5-X is not derived from an existing road bike. Gravel has grown independently from cycling’s other disciplines, with its own races, demands and technical challenges. Road metrics such as weight, stiffness and aerodynamics cannot simply be transferred to a gravel bike.

For this reason, the G5-X was developed starting from real-world use, from each type of terrain and from the specific demands of every kind of gravel racing.

Performance for Gravel

53 mm (nominal) tire clearance. Bigger tires hold more air volume, so riders can run lower pressure. This brings more comfort and grip, better rolling efficiency on rough ground and greater flat protection. Mud is less likely to stop the wheels. (The G4-X’s maximum clearance was 45 mm.)

Slacker head angle, with increased rake. The slacker angle increases trail and wheelbase for stability at speed and confidence on steep terrain. The increased rake reduces trail again to keep steering light and responsive, especially at low speed and on tight switchbacks.

Longer wheelbase and longer overall geometry. The G5-X holds its line on fast, loose descents. It pitches less over washboard, handles loaded bags more predictably and improves traction on loose climbs and in corners.

Lower bottom bracket. An increased BB drop (77.5–80 mm depending on size) lowers the rider’s center of gravity and balances the effect of wider tires, for a more planted ride and a calmer, more predictable line on fast descents.

New carbon layup. Responsive yet compliant. It tempers harsh vibrations on rocky, broken roads and gives immediate power transfer on climbs and sharp accelerations.

Storage, Mountin

Integrated in-frame storage. Tube, CO₂, tools and plug kit fit inside the down tube (storage bag and repair kit not included). Jersey pockets are freed up. Nothing hangs behind the saddle, spares stay protected from mud, water and dust. Bottle mounts remain free for hydration or bags.

Six mounting points. Two additional mounting points on the fork keep the main triangle free for bottles, a frame bag or in-frame storage, while cargo cages on the fork can carry a small dry bag, a jacket or food. One bike can serve both short races and ultra-distance events.

Fidlock Twist Lock. Riders can choose between standard bottle cages and Fidlock Twist Lock mounts, which lock the bottle mechanically so it won’t be ejected on rough terrain. Each G5-X comes with three Fidlock Twist Lock mounts.

Colnago CC.01 Wide. The integrated carbon monocoque handlebar has a 30 mm flare on each side (compared to 10 mm on the road CC.01), for a better gravel riding experience. Reach is 72.5 mm and drop is 120 mm.

Round 27.2 mm seatpost. A slim round post flexes more than a larger or aero-shaped one, absorbing vibration over long hours, and opens up the widest choice of seatposts, from compliant carbon to dropper and suspension posts.
