FLORENCE — Josh Whitehead of Madison and Sarah Moses of Muscle Shoals claimed top honors in the Dam Bridge Run 10K on Saturday.
Moses led the top three women with super finishes in the overall Top 10. Moses was less than 30 seconds off a T-5 finish. Whitehead won by more than six minutes for his second Dam Bridge Run win this year. The 2022 run got pushed into early January, so this was a double Dam Bridge Run year.
Whitehead’s win in January came just a few weeks after his Rocket City Marathon win in December. He also sped to the top podium spot in 2019 (33:14), 2018 (33:22), 2017 (33:17), 2016 (32:40) and 2015 (32:11).
Levi Dickinson of Florence was second in 38:34 behind Whitehead, and Harper Branscome of Tuscumbia was third in 40:56.
Moses took top honors in the women’s division with her time of 42:46, good for seventh place. Melody Brown of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., was second (8th) in 43:16 and Vivian Zou of Huntsville was third (9th) in 43:38.
Masters Winners
Alisa Dickson of Florence was the top Masters Female in 47:48. Jay Hillis of Florence took the Male Masters title in 41:55. Randy Branscombe of Tuscumbia was Male Grand Master (46:11) and Roberta Hauck of Huntsville was Female Grand Master (49:13).
The event had 125 finishers, almost all from Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi. It was the only road event in the area last weekend and attracted solid field. Runners cross the Tennessee River on the historic Wilson Dam, which was completed in 1926. It is part of the Tennessee Valley Authority’s chain of hydroelectric dams in the Southeast that help with flood control and creating electricity. After crossing the dam, runners make their way west and then cross the Singing River Bridge over the river before hitting the finish line.
