About the David McKannan Memorial 5K
Seventy-seven runners completed the event hosted by Huntsville Track Club. Ditto Landing is a multi-use facility on the Tennessee River, with excellent paths for running, walking and biking. One path follows the river, creating scenic views. Another connects with the Aldridge Creek Greenway into south Huntsville.
The Ditto Landing course (and greenway) is fast and pancake-flat. If you’re looking for a PR, this is a good place to do it. The annual Ditto Landing 10K in November usually sees some zippy quick times, as well, and is a solid event.
According to the Huntsville Track Club, McKannan was “an avid runner, loving father, husband and brother who lost his battle with ALS in 2012.” Along with the 5K, the HTC also puts on a 1-mile fun run. The club puts on or assists with several events throughout the year. It was founded in 1971 and is affiliated with USA Track & Field and the Road Runner’s Club of America.
