What's outside in Huntsville, Decatur, Chattanooga, Knoxville and the Great Smoky Mountains

Devil’s Race Track Photo Gallery Is Now Posted

It’s been a minute since the Devil’s Race Track Backyard Ultra, but we finally have our photo gallery posted for anyone to peruse and download.

The April 8 event at Wade Mountain Nature Preserve in Huntsville saw Michael Wall finally make the course yell “Uncle!” Wall completed 17 yards, which were 4.167-mile routes, to take the title. The event was moved up a month from 2022, when unseasonable heat gave some runners the flutters and only 10 yards were attained for the win.

Wall was consistent throughout, with loop times ranging from his final 46:52 quickie yard to a high of 50:47. Finish a yard early enough and you have time. Eat, hydrate, roll out sore muscles, change shoes or socks, hit the loo, whatever. As long as you’re in the starting block when the bell rings for the next lap, you’re good. Or, you can tap out if you’re done.

Kyle Wagner, also of Huntsville, was next with 16 yards (66.7 miles). Elliott Beach of Oxford, Miss., was third with 15 yards (62.5), and Rico Moore of Huntsville was fourth with 15 (58.3).

Runners this year transitioned to a road route for the nighttime yards for safety.

Thirty Devil’s Race Track runners hailed from Alabama (23), Tennessee (2) and Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky and Mississippi. The event was put on by Fringe Events, and sponsored by the Land Trust of North AlabamaFleet FeetYellowhammer Brewing and Huntsville Track Club.
