Greenways, Giveaways

Previous greenways events have been at Ditto Landing, Bradford Creek in Madison and Spring Branch in downtown Huntsville. Event creator Gregg Gelmis said his goal is to get more people active and enjoying the greenways, some of which people don’t know about. The events are great for learning about the greenways and meeting other like-minded people.

The June 19 event at Spring Branch started at the natatorium on Drake Avenue, wound around the big lake and down the greenway, and back around the lake. More than 40 people of all ages participated. The event was a preview for the Huntsville Sprint Triathlon course. Free entries were given via drawing to it and the Racing Rivals triathlon, along with a Thousand bike helmet courtesy of TVO and Thousand. This week’s giveaway includes an Ultimate Direction hydration vest.

Discover Your Greenways partners include Nesin Fit, New Balance, Land Trust of North Alabama, REI, North Alabama Trails & Recreation, Team Rocket Tri Club, Singing River Trail, Huntsville Parks & Recreation, Healthy Huntsville, Ditto Landing and First Place Athletics.
