Carlos Langat won the Morningside Baptist Church Firecracker 5K after a battle with Kevin Betts to the finish line.
Langat crossed in 16:24, with Betts not far behind in 16:58. Nathaniel Pierce was third in 18:05. Betts also finished second in 2022.
A strong field of 156 runners lit out from the church headed to Aldridge Creek Greenway, one of the city’s many public greenways. Flat and fast, it provides runners with a great chance for a personal best time. The course is host for several events including the David McKannan 5K, Boston or Bust Marathon and Ditto Landing 10K.
Rose Betts won the women’s title in 19:14. She was sixth overall. Autumn Betts was second (7th) in 19:39, and Julia Donovan was third (9th) in 19:57.
Katie Maehlmann won the Women’s Masters title in 21:26. She was 19th overall. Betts took the Men’s Master’s win.
