Several runners in the Tennessee Valley Outsider footprint earned buckles in the Forgotten Florida 100-mile endurance run Feb. 4-5, including third-place finisher Kyle Kalbus of Chattanooga.
Kalbus, 37, was third overall in a time of 19:21:12. The winner was about an hour ahead, and Kalbus was about 50 minutes ahead of his closest competitor.
The event takes runners through Tosohatchee, Charles Bronson State Forest, Seminole Ranch, Little Big Econ State Forest and other undeveloped areas. It has several runnable sections amid a mix of rarely traveled single track meandering through palm groves and pine flat woods.
Other TVO-area finishers were:
— Julia Lipeles, 48, of Jasper, Tenn., who was 25th overall and second female in a time of 26:06:14;
— Martin Schneekloth, 51, of Huntsville, Ala., who was 32nd in a time of 26:47:57;
Fifty-one runners finished the 100-mile event. See the full results here of it and the other Forgotten Florida events from the weekend.
