Franchino, Harrison Easily Smash Records at Redstone 25K

Course records were crushed on Weeden and Madkin mountains in the third annual Redstone 25K trail run Saturday morning at Redstone Arsenal.

Vincent Franchino of Philadelphia captured the win in 2:08:17, setting a course record by about four minutes.

Amelia Harrison of New Market took top honors in the women’s division, finishing eighth in 2:41:34. That crushed the women’s record by about six minutes. Harrison bagged last year’s McKay Hollow Madness 25K, which is coming up on March 28 at Monte Sano State Park.

The Redstone 25K is a combination of the more popular and less traveled trails on and around Weeden and Madkin mountains. Runners start on a paved greenway at Vincent Park for about 1 mile out and back before entering the trails. Runners summit Weeden Mountain (mile 5.6) and Madkin Mountain (mile 13.9) with a variety of single-track trails and occasional gravel service road in between.

The course has an elevation gain of 1,827 feet.
