The thermometer registered 45 degrees. With the wind, it hovered around 40. It was going to be a chilly, early-morning run.
When temperatures drop, you have to be smart about your gear – layering is a must. You want to stay comfortable – not a sweaty mess a mile into your run. The key to staying comfortable when the mercury dips is to start with a good base layer like the Recover Sport Quarter Zip.
Recover is a North Carolina-based active-lifestyle clothing company that describes itself as a “sustainable apparel company.” Recover was founded in 2010 as a company that would not only reduce plastic pollution in rivers, oceans, landfills and adventure playgrounds, but would also give people an easy choice to be part of a solution instead of part of a problem. They wanted to develop a company that focused on being as environmentally friendly and socially responsible as possible in all aspects of the business – from design to manufacturing to fulfillment.
How Does it Perform?
I donned the Sport Quarter Zip, which features moisture-wicking 100-percent recycled polyester fabric that is stretchy and breathable, underneath a lightweight windproof jacket first thing in the morning for my chilly workout. The top performed as advertised. It wicked sweat well and kept me warm and dry. I can see the versatility Recover touts; from early morning runs, the golf course, shredding singletrack and everything in between, this technical performance top will keep you comfortable all day long. Meet your new go-to performance layer.
I enjoyed wearing the Sport Quarter Zip so much I left it on for the duration of the day. Around noon I left the office and headed back outside. The wind had picked up, and there was still a chill in the air. However, the long sleeves made the wind on my arms a non-factor. A little later in the day, as temps increased, I pushed up the sleeves and they stayed there. Nice. Stretchy indeed.
I can also see myself wearing the Sport Quarter Zip in non-active settings as well – it’s just casual and stylish – to subtly advertise my penchant for outside adventure.
