When I decided to cut the cord on my earbuds, I knew what I wanted – great sound, great fit and waterproof. So I did what I always do when making a purchase – I scoured the internet for hours and read every review I could. I compared different brands, models and price points. In the end, I decided on the Under Armour Project Rock True Wireless X earbuds engineered by JBL.
And I’m glad I did.
When I opened the box and stuck one of them in my ears, I was impressed with the snug fit. Then I turned on the music. Sure, they’re not going to compete with full over-ear headphones, but they pack a surprisingly bassy punch for their size. That was requirement No. 1 for me when shopping for new earbuds.
Requirement No. 2 was the earbuds be waterproof. I tend to sweat. A lot. I start sweating when I get out of the shower in the morning. So I can be brutal on earbuds during a 5K or a long bike ride. The Wireless X buds have stood up to my sweaty punishment.
The Wireless X buds’ Bluetooth performs very well. I can leave my phone on my desk and walk all over my house, upstairs and downstairs, on the phone or listening to music and the sound stays with me.
My biggest concern going to truly wireless earbuds was that I would lose them during a run or on the trail, but the Wireless X buds’ antibacterial Sport Flex Fit ear tips hang tight for the duration. I haven’t had one fall out yet.
But What About Battery Life?
This is the really cool part about the Wireless X buds. Under Armour boasts the aluminum charging case has a battery life of 50 hours. I haven’t had it die on me yet, and I rarely charge it. The buds themselves take two hours to charge and claim a maximum play time or talk time of 10 hours.
But How Do They Sound?
Phone calls are crystal clear, and the recipients of my calls say they sound solid. JBL’s Bionic Hearing features Talk Thru Technology so you can talk to people around you, and Ambient Aware Technology allows you to hear your surroundings for increased safety. However, I tend to wear just one when I’m running or riding in or around traffic. Maybe I’m just being overcautious.
Overall, I couldn’t be more pleased with my Wireless X purchase. It helped that I found them on sale at a big box electronics store. Now, if my body would just match that battery life during a run, I’d be set.
