Women looking to ride wild while looking good, look no further – the Wild Rye Galena Gel Bikes Gloves are for you.
The Galena Gel gloves may look all play, but a closer look reveals a piece of gear that is about serious hard work and sustainability. Wild Rye takes pride in their fabrics, manufacturing practices and recycled and recyclable packaging to ensure, in their words, “your apparel lasts a lifetime … and doesn’t end up in a landfill.”
About Wild Rye
Wild Rye was founded in 2016 and is based in Sun Valley, Idaho, just a few minutes from the base of Sun Valley Resort’s Bald Mountain and riding distance from more than 700 miles of single track. Wild Rye’s women describe themselves as a “very small, hardworking team of women who love the outdoors. Their dogs. Margaritas. Bagels. Campfires. And hiking.”
Their models are real bikers, skiers, and passionate women in the outdoors. The Wild Rye staff has decades of outdoor, cycling and ski industry experience. They are also the ones responding to every email, shipping every box and answering the phone.
Wild Rye Sustainability and More
Wild Rye focuses on recycled materials and researches the highest industry standard for sustainable production. Their fabrics meet rigorous environmental and animal welfare standards. Whenever possible they use Bluesign-certified fabrics; if such certification is not available, they ensure the fabrics have recycled components.
The brand is also working to participate in and become compliant with the Higg Index. The Higg Index was pioneered by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition and is designed to help brands assess and improve their environmental impact.
Additionally, Wild Rye has partnered with EcoCart to enable consumers to offset the carbon footprint with a positive environmental impact for every single Wild Rye shipment. That means the emissions from manufacturing and shipping Wild Rye pieces can be made 100 percent carbon neutral. Just click the “Make my order carbon neutral” box in your shopping cart.
The Galena Gel Test
TVO Team Tester Rhiannon used the chart on Wild Rye’s website to determine her proper fit and ordered a medium pair of Disco Dahlia gloves – a fun floral pattern. She tested the Galena Gel Bike Gloves on her mountain bike on a sunny day with mild temperatures.
After giving the gloves a few sessions, I asked Rhiannon what she thought of the gloves. Her previous grippers were a pair of fingerless, heavily padded gloves.
“These gloves are easy to get on and off and ran true to the size I measured for and ordered,” Rhiannon said. “I like the print; it’s fun and feminine. And there is a good amount of padding where it needs to be.”
Rhiannon said the gloves breathed well and kept her hands cool and sweat-free, another plus in her opinion.
Wild Rye Construction
These gloves are built to last. They are built with a four-way stretch shell, gel palm padding, silicon finger grippies and synthetic suede palm. The gloves are touch-screen compatible, and the “Play Wild” party detail adds a bit of fun to the hands.
“I have longer fingernails, and I could feel the inner seam under my nails when I rode,” Rhiannon said. “Not a big deal at all … a fingerless option would be perfect for me.”
“That being said, they look very pretty,” she added and rode off again.
The Galena Gel Bike Gloves come in two colors: Disco Dahlia and Midnight Paradise. The gloves are available in extra small, small, medium, and large, and retail for $34.
