Greenway Grand Prix 4-Mile: Day, Allan Take Top Spots

Jay Day and Megan Allan sped to wins in the Greenway Grand Prix 4-mile race Friday evening at Indian Creek Greenway.

Day captured overall honors with his zippy time of 20:47, winning by almost two minutes. Allan captured her second GGP win in the women’s division, finishing fifth overall in 23:38. She won the 5K title in the inaugural event June 20 at Aldridge Creek Greenway.

The series consists of four Friday evening races, all held on flat and fast greenways in Huntsville. Similar to the Running Lane summer and winter Wild Thangs trail series events, the Greenway Grand Prix races increase in distance with each event.

The series takes a break until July 18, when it returns for the third installment, an 8K (5 miles) at Big Cove Greenway in Hampton Cove. The finale on Aug. 1 is a 10K on the Aldridge Creek Greenway out of Ditto Landing. Ditto and Aldridge Creek are home to several popular events, including the Boston or Bust marathon.

Bailey Kendrick was second in 22:47, and Daniel Sillivant was third in 22:36.

Catherine Terwilliger was second in the women’s division and ninth overall, in 25:09. Isabelle Allan was third (12th overall) in 25:57.

The race had 78 official finishers.
