HAMR Fall Fest Rides Into Autumn at Monte Sano State Park

Riders and other mountain biking enthusiasts will converge on Monte Sano State Park for three days of fun at the annual HAMR Fall Fest.

The event is Oct. 16-19 at the state park lodge. Registration and daily park entry fee are required.

HAMR is the Huntsville Area Mountain bike Riders. It’s a chapter of the Southern Off-Road Bicycling Association (SORBA), and is a registered non-profit organization. The chapter, founded in 2005, supports “mountain bike advocacy, the building and maintenance of trails for multiple users, and serving as a resource for the mountain bike community of North Alabama.”

The group works with the Monte Sano and Guntersville state parks, Land Trust, City of Huntsville, Redstone Arsenal MWR, TVA and Forever Wild to maintain and develop trail systems for bikers, hikers and other users.

Fall Fest kicks off with an evening group ride on Thursday (Oct. 16) at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center trails, which are beginner-friendly. Riders should have lights. Post-ride fun includes the Biergarten at the Davidson Center. Ten percent of food/bev sales will go to HAMR as the non-profit beneficiary of the evening.

Friday’s activities include a SORBA board meeting, with the official festival kickoff at the state park at 3 p.m. including evening rides for multiple abilities. Riders should have lights. Volunteers and other experienced riders will be on hand for advice and safety.

Saturday and Sunday events include more group rides, yoga sessions, demos, skills clinics, a whip-off contest, silent auction, raffles, vendors, music, food and more. Strava-based segment races also are on tap.

Shuttles will be available for riders.
