More than five dozen runners and walkers celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month at a Latinos Run fun run Monday night at Fleet Feet in Huntsville.
The third annual event, this year sponsored by Hoka, was part of the nationwide celebration of the rich Hispanic cultural heritage. A representative from Hoka was on hand Monday evening with shoes for runners to try on the 3-mile jaunt, including the Mach X 2.
62 runners finished the fun run, which was timed but wasn’t a “wooo, you won!” event. That’s what fun runs are … fun. Bibs and times were kept to submit for national stats. Still, if you’re interested, the runners Monday night posted times ranging from 21:35 to 52:04. The course changed from 2023, with a toodle down Carl T. Jones Drive and up into Christie Acres before returning to Fleet Feet. Unlike last year, this one had a hill or two, making it a bit more fun.
Back at Fleet Feet after the run, a bountiful buffet had been prepared by local runner Perla Núñez. It included rice, tortillas, salad, Discada, tamales, flautas, pico con nopales, Horchata, Jamaica, salsa, tomatillo salsa, crema, chips and more. It was eagerly enjoyed by all.
The fun run is part of the Latinos Run annual celebration. Latinos Run serves “a global Latinx audience of over 25,000 runners from beginners to elite athletes. These are runners who are passionate about living a healthier life. As a minority-based organization, Latinos Run has opened the door to highlight a community that largely is ignored in the health and fitness industry. Their goal is to inspire more individuals of color to change the way the fitness industry looks, celebrate diversity and empower others to get inspired by the journey.”
