ANNISTON, Ala. — Bradley Makuvire of Tennessee won the 43rd Woodstock 5K and the Alabama 5K championship on Aug. 3 in one of the state’s oldest road running events.
Makuvire, 26, of Murfreesboro, had a sizzling pace of 4:37 per mile to finish in 14:18. He won by 13 seconds over Solomon Kagimbi, 36, of Columbia, S.C., who crossed in 14:31.
Jay Day, 24, of Huntsville, was third in 15:28. Right behind him in the Top 10 were Jacob Bishop of Madison (15:32), Allan Anderson of Huntsville (15:34), Joey Schlich of Huntsville (15:36) and Hunter Nails of Madison (15:50).
Savannah Peppenhorst, 26, of Norcross, Ga., won the women’s title in 18 minutes. She was 31st overall.
Vivian Zou, 53, of Huntsville, won the Women’s Master’s title with her time of 24:07. She was 162nd overall.
The race serves as the Alabama 5K Championship, as sanctioned by the Road Runners Club of America. The Woodstock 5K has played host for 17 RRCA championship races, including six national championships, five regional championships and six state championships. The race is organized by the Anniston Runners Club, a local non-profit organization.
More than 900 runners from 13 states, as well as Kenya, registered for Saturday’s race, which had 898 official finishers. The race is held each year on the first Saturday of August.
