DECATUR, Ala. — Daniel Fagerman won the Mountain Mania 15K by almost two minutes on a beautiful morning perfect for running.
Fagerman, 37, of Hartselle, pushed a 7:31-per-mile average over the hilly route up and around Burningtree Mountain to win in 1:10. Runners started at Burningtree Country Club, then ascended the mountain, wound through the neighborhood, went down and then back up the mountain and finished at the club. Burningtree Mountain has about 827 feet of elevation, which was tackled almost immediately for the 15K and 5K runners.
Scott Butler, 59, of Madison, was second in 1:11:59 and Taylor Britton, 30, of Charleston, S.C., was third in 1:13:08.
Heather Coon, 47, of Decatur, was the first female (12th overall) in 1:25.22. Deana Aaron, 46, of Hartselle, was second (14th) in 1:27:44 and Rachel Evans, 45, of Meridianville, was third (15th) in 1:28:59.
Race director Stuart Lamp revived the event after a two-year layoff. He said the field was about evenly split for the 15K and 5K, and was pleased with the turnout for the renewal.

Mountain Mania 5K
Brandon Fox, 46, of Huntsville, smoked the 5K course in a time of 17:52 to take top honors as a field of 38 toed the mark for the shorter lung-busting event.
Elias Martinez, 48, of Madison, was second in 18:39 and Ignacio Roman, 50, of Decatur, was third in 23:48. The 5K field had 38 finishers.
Bree Thompson, 14, of Enterprise, claimed the women’s title in 26:07. She was fifth overall. Perla Nunez, 40, of Huntsville, was second (6th) in 26:38, and Samantha Borglum, 20, of Hartselle, was third (7th) in 26:54.
