Paka Apparel, the sustainable alpaca fiber apparel company, has launched the first traceable alpaca sweater as part of its Origin program. They hope to prove small-scale, regenerative agriculture is a path toward a more connected and sustainable future.
Paka Apparel has emphasized the connection between its clothing, Peru, and those who create each piece for years. The release of the Origin program takes this mission a step further. Using fiber sourced directly from small farms in the Andes Mountains, customers can pinpoint the exact location of where the alpaca lives. This takes the guesswork out of knowing where the clothing originates. Customers can simply scan a QR code on the hang tag to pinpoint the location of origin. They can also learn about the alpacas and the farmers who care for and raise them. Their goal is to highlight the importance of small farms and their impact on the environment. Customers will also receive an Origin Certificate from Paka’s partnership with the Asociación Internacional de la Alpaca (AIA).
“We’re connecting people to where their clothing comes from and those who made it – ultimately, the source,” says Paka CEO and founder Kris Cody. “With the new program Origin we are proving small-scale, regenerative agriculture is possible; that you can buy a sweater sourced from a herd of 60 to 90 free-roaming alpacas in the Andes Mountains, improve the Peruvian family’s life that lives alongside the alpacas, and see exactly where that happened on a map.”
The Oat Hoodie features a triple panel hood and comfort-V neckline. Flexible Knit on both sides of the sweater provides breathability and flex. The Oat Hoodie retails for $129 and can be found at pakaapparel.com
