Pepper Spray Training Courses Scheduled at Fleet Feet

Two 3-hour pepper spray training courses teaching and discussing self-defense will be held at Fleet Feet in Huntsville and Madison.

The courses will be conducted by At Arms Reach LLC. Attendees who complete the course will be certified in the proper use of pepper spray as a less than-lethal measure of force. Interactive scenarios and drills will be conducted.

The cost is $75. That includes a 25 percent discount and pepper spray product, both courtesy of Fleet Feet.

The course at Fleet Feet Huntsville is Oct. 3 at 5:30 p.m. The course at Fleet Feet Madison is Oct. 10 at 5:30 p.m.

According to At Arms Reach, those who complete the session “will be certified in the proper use of pepper spray and have the skills necessary to deploy it confidently in any self-defense situation. This course will focus on the proper use of less-than-lethal force with defensive tools and tactics to help you win a fight. There will be a heavy emphasis on the use of OC spray (pepper spray).”

The sessions also will cover:

— How to avoid becoming a crime victim;
— Tactics of the street criminal;
— Managing unknown contacts;
— Where and how less-than-lethal weapons are used to avoid becoming a victim of violent crime;
— Deescalation tactics, verbal agility and transitioning to deadly force, if appropriate;
— OC spray product selection;
— Low light self-defense issues.

Legal ramifications of using pepper spray also will be discussed.

Include your full name, the Huntsville or Madison Fleet Feet location you plan to attend, and sign the participant waiver upon arrival. The minimum age is 12 to participate, but anyone under age 18 is required to have a parent or guardian sign the course waiver.
