More than 4,000 runners and walkers in the 20th annual LIz Hurley Ribbon Run, along with event sponsors and other donors, helped raised more than $472,000 in the 2023 event Oct. 21.
That record amount will be used by the Huntsville Hospital Breast Center to help local breast cancer patients and survivors. The Huntsville Hospital Foundation announced the news about the record on Wednesday. More than $7.2 million has been raised by the Liz Hurley Breast Cancer Fund since 1999.
The annual event is one of the biggest in north Alabama. Only the Rocket City Marathon, Cotton Row and a couple of others coming close. It includes hardcore runners, walkers, cancer survivors and those who have been impacted in some way by breast cancer. Hurley is an award-winning journalist and breast cancer survivor of more than 20 years.
Proceeds from this year’s ribbon run will help the Breast Center purchase an additional ultrasound machine and specialized ultrasound table. The new, high-tech equipment will reduce wait times for diagnostic screenings to detect breast cancers earlier and more accurately.
Top sponsors of the Ribbon Run include CFD Research, Torch Technologies, Tropical Smoothie Cafe and Redstone Federal Credit Union. The Huntsville Hospital Foundation has a ton of photos here from the 2023 run.
