Race for Justice: Morris, Sillivant Race to Record Wins

The third annual Race For Justice saw record times and fields Monday morning at Joe Davis Stadium, with runners finding awesome conditions for a fun Labor Day scamper.

Clouds and low humidity? Yep. Gentle breezes and temps in the 70s? Yes and yes, please. The start outside of Wicks Family Field, home of Huntsville City FC, saw 87 in the 10K field take off for a few loops around the stadium before heading to John Hunt Park. After a few loops there, they returned to the stadium to finish.

“Registrations were up this year to almost 300 from 217 last year,” said race director Gerri Plain. “A month ago I was wondering if we were going to have that many. This is a great turnout and we hope to continue growing. We raised almost $45,000 this year for the program.”

Proceeds benefit the Madison County Volunteer Lawyers Program. Attorney provide pro bono work for civil matters to county individuals in need. These cases include uncontested divorce, wills, power of attorney, adoption, guardianship, name change, child support modification, consumer issues and bankruptcy. The program does not handle criminal or fee-generating cases.
