GRANT, Ala. — Dianna Leun and Logan Roberts claimed top honors Saturday morning in the fourth Race to the Cave half-marathon at Cathedral Caverns State Park.
Roberts, 37, of Pensacola, Fla., took top honors by about three minutes, crossing the finish line in 1:27:01. John Brock, 33, of Lookout Mountain, Tenn., was second in 1:30:14.
Leun, 52, of Signal Mountain, Tenn., was the top female, finishing 14th overall in 1:47:23. Jennifer Funk, 54, also of Signal Mountain, was second (25th) in 1:52.
The field had 269 finishers who battled chilly northwest winds gusting to 20 mph. Runners came from 28 states, including California, Colorado and New Jersey, and Ireland. The race is routed on roads leading to the state park cavern entrance, with the last 1.2ish miles run inside the cavern. More than 300 runners have finished prior races.
Cathedral Caverns has an opening 126 feet wide and 25 feet high, along with many unique flowstone, stalactite and stalagmite features. Running Lane hosts the road half and 10K in spring, a 5K road in September, and a 15K/5K trail run in November.

Race to the Cave 10K
Kristen Thorne and Kyle Miller won the Race to the Cave 10K titles Saturday morning.
Thorne, 41, finished 11th overall and won the women’s title in 52:29.
Miller, 29, took overall honors in 47:38.
The field had 232 finishers.
