Cynthia Mitchell and James Miller sizzled to top honors in the Racin’ the Station duathlon Saturday morning at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville.
Conditions were perfect, with mild temperatures and clear skies at the 8:15 a.m. start. The event included a 1.95-mile run, flat and fast 14-mile bike ride and 1.95-mile run to the finish line. Instead of a “Go!” to start the first run, a model rocket launch signaled the start. Competitors were attempting to beat the International Space Station as it made one 91-minute, 12-second revolution around the earth. Those who did received a special award of a transition towel with the footprints from a moon landing.
James Miller captured top honors, finishing in a speedy 58:56. Jon Tate was second in 1:01:19, and Matt Fletcher was third in 1:04:05
Cynthia Mitchell was the overall female winner (17th overall) in 1:14:47. Ashley Loertscher was second (20th) in 1:15:45, and Lori Coward was third (25th) in 1:17:19.
Awards were given in multiple categories including overal male and female, Legends, Masters and team relay.
