Three local runners put on a blazing show in the Free 2 Teach Paper Chase 5K, with Adam Wallenfelsz of Madison crossing as the winner in downtown Huntsville.
More than 250 runners braved chilly conditions on Feb. 26, running by Constitution Village and through downtown around the Courthouse Square. Conditions were blustery at the gun, but they were far better than later in the day when a cold northwest wind ushered in rain.
Wallenfelsz clipped along in a fine 5:42 average, with Clayton Tucker of Madison right behind in 5:45 to post a 17:40 and take second. Andrew Bustos was third in 18:19 and an average of 5:54 per mile. John Murry of Harvest was fourth (19:22) and Phillip Cain of Huntsville fifth (19:28).
Tay Cavett of Huntsville won the Female Overall in 20:58. Rachel Joffrion of Huntsville was second female and 11th overall in 22:15. Jordan King of Harvest was third female and 20th overall, in 23:45.
Huntsville Police Department provided course assistance during the race, which was organized by Huntsville Track Club and Fleet Feet.
