Youth ruled in the Rocket City Marathon Back Half Marathon on Sunday, with a hairthin close men’s finish and blowout in the women’s division.
Dalton Graves, 19, of Mooresville, N.C., won the overall title in 1:13:24 but had Cormac Carolan nipping his heels at the line. Carolan, of Franklin, Tenn., was runner-up in 1:13:37. Frank Matte of Birmingham was third in 1:15.
Bella Butler, 18, of Dayton, Ohio, won the women’s title in 1:19. She was eighth overall. Corrie Kennedy of Louisville was second (17th) in 1:29:15, and Natosha Crisco of Sherwood, Ark., was third (18th) in 1:29:49.
Matt McMillan of Owens Cross Roads was the top local male, in ninth at 1:19:49. Adrienne Foell of Falkville was the top women’s finisher, in 26th at 1:37:20.
Osamu Sato, 58, of Marietta, Ga., won the Men’s Masters title in 1:37:13. Amanda Leblanc, 42, of Louisville took the Women’s Masters honor in 1:18.
The field had 634 registered entrants. The RCM is put on by the Huntsville Track Club and presented by the Huntsville Sports Commission. The Front Half Marathon also was held Sunday, with sizzling finishes by the winners.
