Rocket City Trash Pandas Trash Dash 5K

The Rocket City Trash Pandas Trash Dash 5K will be held April 23 at Toyota Field in Madison, with runners ending the fast run on the warning track where the Pandas play.

Registration is $30 and includes a shirt, and every runner who crosses the finish line will get a drink ticket for the post-race celebration. Finishers also will receive a General Admission ticket to the April 26 game between the Trash Pandas and Birmingham Barons. Runners also will be recognized at the Pandas-Barons game.

The 5K begins at 9 a.m. Deadline to register to receive a shirt is April 3, and deadline for online registration is April 15 at 5 p.m.

Overall 1st-3rd Male and Female winners will receive a medal or trophy and Fleet Feet awards. The Overall Male and Female winners will have the opportunity to make a ceremonial first pitch during the April 26 pregame ceremonies. Awards from Fleet Feet will be given to the 1st-3rd Age Division winners for male and female.

TVO co-founder Chad Gay and I, along with Chad’s wife, did the 2021 Trash Pandas event. They knocked out the 5K and I completed the 10K. The course was flat other than the hill just southwest of the stadium; it’s part of the hill (or ridge) you can see from I-565. This year’s news that the race organizers are doing just a 5K and are having the course certified is good news. They should attract more runners of all ages for this fun event.

Packet pickup and course information will be announced later, and updated here.
