Grattan O’Neill zoomed to the Running of the Bulls 5K title on Aug. 26, his second straight win in the hot summer event on Big Cove Greenway in Huntsville.
O’Neill, 16, of Huntsville, finished in 15:53 for the easy win. It was almost two minutes faster than his 2022 win on the same course. The event is a fundraiser for Hampton Cove Middle School. It had 339 finishers in the 5K and several hundred adults and kids in the 1-Mile fun run.
Jean McCrady, 90, of Brownsboro, set an Alabama age group record with her time of 47:56. That shattered the record set by Roz Fellwock of Huntsville in 2018 by almost 17 minutes. McCrady began running nine years ago and holds five age records.
Peter Toland, 24, of Owens Cross Roads, was second in 17:49, and Athan O’Neill, 14, of Huntsville, was third in 17:54.
Clarissa Hell, 28, of Huntsville, won the women’s division in 20:36. She was 14th overall. Isabelle Allan, 13, of Huntsville, was second (16th) in 20:40, and Ashlyn Drown, 16, of Huntsville, was third (21st) in 21:15.
