RunningLane Track Championships Zoom Into Milton Frank Stadium

Top high school athletes from across the country will compete today and Saturday in multiple events at the RunningLane Track Championships at Milton Frank Stadium.

The event features some of the nation’s best high school track athletes competing in the 400m, 800m and 3200m. This year the 2000m Steeplechase and Distance Medley Relay have been added. The DMR involves a 4-person relay team but each one runs a different distance. Instead of a 4×400 relay, for example, the DMR competitors might run 1200 on the first leg, 400m on the second, 800m on the third and 1600m on the final. It sets up for more interesting competition and allows runners of different disciplines to get involved.

This is the third year for the championships. Rocky Hansen of North Carolina missed a sub-4-minute mile by less than a second last year. Another crew of speedy female and male runners are registered this year. Milton Frank Stadium also has a resurfaced track, which likely will lead to faster times in all events.

Event Details

Competition is May 26-27 in the evening and under the lights. Multiple heats will be held for the events based on official seeding times. Athletes include those in grades 7-12 for the 2021-22 school year for the high school races.

Milesplit will provide live coverage.

Friday’s events include the 400m prelims, DMR and 3200m, with the 800m, 400m and 2K Steeplechase set for Saturday.

Championships finals for the 3200m, 400m and Mile will be Saturday night under the lights.

The RunningLane Track Championships are part of a huge weekend in Huntsville. The U.S. Para-Cycling Road World Cup event is being staged at Cummings Research Park. The 43rd Cotton Row Run 10K will be Memorial Day at 7 a.m. downtown, along with a 5K and fun run. The para-cycling finals in several categories will be held later Monday.
