MOORESVILLE, Ala. — Dane Ard and London Cox sped to the winners’ stand in the second annual Singing River 10K on Aug. 31 at Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge.
Ard, 17, of Decatur, won the overall title in 43:38, about three minutes off his third-place time last year. It still was good enough to put Ard on the Top 10 records list in fifth place.
Jack Lamp, 15, of Decatur, was second in 44:47, and Ryan Stutzman, 32, of Madison, was third (6th overall) in 51:20.
Cox, 17, of Madison, coasted to the women’s title and third place with a record time of 45:14. That time puts her second on the record list, less than two minutes off Julia Donovan’s mark set last year.
Hannah Clough, 28, of Huntsville was second (4th overall) in 47:33, and Susan Gilchrist, 53, of Memphis, was third (5th) in 48:29.
The top 10 finishers broke an hour, solid on the gravel road course at the refuge. Proceeds benefit the Singing River Trail, a developing greenway system of more than 200 miles in North Alabama. Runners started and ended at the Singing River House, with the course routed through 1818 Farms to the Tennessee River.
Sponsors were Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, REI and Fleet Feet. The races were facilitated by Fringe Events, in conjunction with the Blue Heron Hundreds.
