Sottolano, Frazier, Cavett Win Run Undead, Set New Records

Three Huntsville runners won Run Undead ultras on New Year’s Eve at Oak Mountain State Park, setting two overall course records in blistering finishes.

Meghan Sottolano, 39, of Huntsville won the 4th annual Run Undead 100K with a course-record time. Sottolano crushed the field, leaving the dusty bones of her competitors in the wake with a scorching time of 13:13:06. She won by more than an hour, with runner-up Mac Trainor of North Pole, Alaska, finishing in 14:18.

Sottolano’s time is the best in the Run Undead 100K record books. The men’s record of 13:18:30 was set in 2024 by Chris Copley of Pensacola. Sottolano also won the Blue Heron Hundreds 100K last spring.

In the 50K, Tay Cavett, 27, of Huntsville, smoked the 50K field and finished in 4:21:30, winning by more than 35 minutes to set the course record. Caleb Yawn of Ellijay, Ga., was second in 4:56:52. Cavett’s winning time is the best ever by a woman or man in the race. She’s tops by 31 minutes on the men’s side and 93 minutes on the women’s side.

Gavin Frazier, 23, of Huntsville, won the 50-mile event by a step at the mat, crossing in 9:19:49. He beat Porter Homigold of Fairhope, who saw 9:19:51 flash on the board. It was a late-surge blur, though, with Sean Pierce of Atlanta crossing in 9:19:53 and Brady Clements of Chelsea finishing in 9:19:55.
