State Age Records Fall in Breezy Winter Winds Races

Ten state age records were set Sunday afternoon in the annual Winter Winds 2- and 4-mile races at Sandra Moon Community Complex in Huntsville.

Logan Wood, age 9, and his sister, Brooklyn, age 7, both of Hazel Green, along Kathy Harper, 74, of Athens, each set records in both races. This isn’t the first time for the trio. They logged records in previous Winds races, which has certified courses and is a favorite road event to kick off the year.

State records set in the 2-mile included:

— Logan Wood, age 9, Hazel Green, 11:59 (previous record, 13:06)
— Brooklyn Wood, 7, Hazel Green, 14:00 (15:36)
— Sage Betts, 22, Lacey’s Spring, 13:18 (14:13)
— Kathy Harper, 74, Athens, 18:04 (18:22)

State records set in the 4-mile included:

— Logan Wood, 9, Hazel Green, 27:46 (29:27)

Race Winners!

Whitehead captured the 4-mile race in 21:05 with a 5:17 pace, but he had a couple of young flatbellies and veterans breathing down his neck.
