Suunto Race S Titanium Courtney Watch Glows in the Dark

In collaboration with Courtney Dauwalter, Suunto has co-created the new Suunto Race S Titanium Courtney for the Race S, made for training and racing.

Dauwalter, the expert of ultra running, is known for her unmatched mental toughness. She breaks down races into manageable sections, focusing on the next milestone, and uses positive self-talk to stay driven. Phrases like “embrace the pain” and “right foot, left foot” are her go-tos, working like mantras to keep her focused, manage pain, and maintain a steady rhythm. When she enters the “pain cave,” Courtney imagines “grabbing a chisel” and pushing further into that mental space, a place she describes as essential to building resilience.

The lightest watch in our portfolio, Race S in titanium, is now out with a fresh, new design. Its strap is vibrant and colorful in daylight. At nighttime, the strap comes to life and glows in the dark. It reveals Dauwalter’s mantra – believe — in her handwriting.

“Believe is a mantra that I use pretty often,” Dauwalter said. “If you just repeat it over and over in your head, there’s no room for anything else but to believe you can keep on going no matter what it looks like.

“When the sun sets at an ultra, it feels pretty special. It’s like you’re doing something not everyone else is doing. Sitting on your couch would be easier. But here you are, headed into the mountains in the dark to see what you can find. Sunrise is this huge jolt of energy—like we made it through the night, and now we get to see the terrain again!”

Fun, Functional

It’s this positive burst of energy that brought Dauwalter and Suunto’s design team together. Dauwalter made sure the Race S Titanium Courtney’s functionality matched her ultra-running needs: “When I’m running 100 miles, what kind of friend do I want on my wrist? Something lightweight, easy to read, and colorful enough to give off good vibes!”

“The final look of the watch reflects Courtney’s wishes and preferences,” said Pinja Rouger, Senior CMF Designer at Suunto .”The watch has a slim design for added comfort, with bright, energetic colors – just like Courtney. Through studying different designs, we found out a way to include her mantra “Believe” as a handwritten text, written by Courtney, to appear in the dark with the glow-in-the-dark watch band.”

The glow-in-the-dark effect has been extremely interesting. It provides a ‘wow effect’ for anyone looking for that extra push when overcoming tough paths. Suunto Race and Suunto Race S are made for training, racing, and everyday life. More than 95 sport modes follow the impact of your training with multiple metrics to track progress and recovery.
